Dr. Stephen McDowell traveled to Bangkok, Thailand to speak about his cyber security research in July. His presentation, “Promoting Cybersecurity Awareness; Research on Communication Campaigns to Promote Safe Online Behavior” was co-authored by Judd Butler and Xiuwen Liu. Butler is a partner at Educational Development Group, Inc. in Tallahassee and Liu is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at Florida State.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to visit one of the leading universities in Thailand, and also to meet with faculty from other universities around the country. We shared many similar questions about strategies to undertake research on cybersecurity awareness,” said McDowell, a John H. Phipps Professor of Communication in the School of Communication.
The presentations were held at School of Communication Arts, Sukhothai Thammatirat Open University (STOU) in Bangkok. Dr. Monwipa Wongrujira, assistant professor at STOU and former doctoral student at FSU, organized the presentations with STOU professors and other universities.
Founded in 1978, STOU was the first university in Southeast Asia to use distance-learning systems. The university enabled higher education for hundreds of Thai people who would otherwise not have access.
