FSU School of Communication Science and Disorders Assistant Professor, Sana Tibi, Ph.D., had two spoken papers at two invited symposia at the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading 2018 annual conference. She traveled to Brighton, United Kingdom, in July to present her research.
Dr. Tibi was invited by Professor Ludo Verhoeven –from the Behavioural Science Institute, Radboud University Nijmegen– and Professor Ken Pugh, the director of Haskins Lab to speak at the first symposium: Developmental dyslexia across languages and writing systems. The title of Dr. Tibi’s spoken paper was Testing the applicability of the Double-Deficit Hypothesis (DDH) in Arabic. Dr. Tibi presented results from her research on how the two core deficits of the DDH (phonological awareness & Naming speed) apply to reading in Arabic.
Dr. Tibi’s second invited spoken paper was the result of a collaborative effort with two doctoral graduates from the School of Communication Science and Disorders, Lisa Fitton and Autumn McIlraith. The title of the presentation was The development of a Standardized Measure of Orthographic Processing in Arabic.
