Dr. Jaejin Lee, Associate Professor in the School of Communication, recently presented research at the Eastern Communication Association (ECA) annual conference. Her presentation discussed Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) campaigns that prevent hazardous behaviors on the FSU campus.
Lee emphasized the success of implementing IMC tactics in educational environments to both enhance student engagement and drive community involvement. Her collaborative efforts with the Florida Center for Prevention Research (FCPR) and FSU Sustainable Campus allowed students to develop IMC campaigns that tackled real-world health, environmental and societal issues.
Lee discussed the importance of integrating real-world experiences into the curriculum. By inviting the local community into the classroom setting, students were able to gain practical knowledge and address several critical issues. Lee showcased several projects, including initiatives targeting sexual violence prevention, alcohol abuse reduction and sustainable behavior encouragement.
One notable project, FSU Measure Up, was a social norms initiative aimed at correcting sexual awareness and violence misconceptions among male students. Supported by funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this initiative allows organizations to both gain valuable insights and promote health and safety within the FSU community.
“This type of partnership is mutually beneficial, allowing students to engage with and contribute to the community while also offering a sense of accomplishment from their coursework,” Lee said. By collaborating with local organizations, students gain relevant insights while contributing to meaningful change.
Through successfully implementing IMC campaigns within the local community, Lee continues to drive community engagement, generate positive change and create invaluable classroom experiences.
