Internship Job Description – January 2014
Hill+Knowlton Strategies is seeking a bright, confident, and dynamic communications student or recent graduate to join the Tallahassee, FL office for an internship position starting in January and running through May.
Requirements:
Intern applicants should be recent graduates or pursuing degrees in one or more of the following areas: public relations, marketing, journalism, and/or mass communications.
- Previous internship experience, preferably in an agency
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Articulate, poised, organized, excellent attention to detail
- Ability to follow directions and work well independently
- Basic graphic design skills is a plus
General Job Description
Participants in the internship program will learn about and undertake the following activities:
- Project Management – How to scope out a project and determine objectives, budget, resources and timeline.
- News Writing – Writing effectively for the media, including news releases, media alerts, fact sheets and backgrounders.
- Media Relations – Developing stories that will interest the press: brainstorming angles, writing pitch letters and contacting journalists.
- News Monitoring – Researching coverage on specific issues and clients and summarizing the coverage.
Responsibilities
- Research using the Internet, Factiva, Cision and other search engines
- Drafting/writing media alerts and other press materials
- Participating in account team client meetings and brainstorm sessions
- Maintenance and development of media lists
- Press kit and/or other collateral assembly
