Internship — Ask a Librarian Virtual Reference Provider (Part-Time)

Hours: This position averages 16 hours per week. Must have high availability in the pool of evening & weekend hours in which interns are scheduled: Monday – Thursday 6 pm to midnight, Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday 10 am to midnight ET.

***This is a virtual, home-based position and is now open to both current library school students and degreed librarians.***

Major Functions:

  • Provide virtual reference assistance to answer reference questions in live chat, email, and text messaging for the statewide Ask a Librarian service
  • Accurately assess users’ needs to provide reference services with strong communication skills, reference interview strategies, and a high level of customer service

Minimum Training/Experience:

  • Current resident of Florida
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Current enrollment in, or degree from, a Florida American Library Association (ALA) accredited library school graduate program
  • Recent experience with personal computers, online library services, and web searching
  • Must have a PC and personal access to a reliable broadband Internet connection
  • Must have a flexible schedule with high availability for hours posted above (average 16 hours per week)
