Technical Writer Intern

    Description

    As a Technical Writer Intern, you will learn to generate internal and external end user documentation while following the application development life cycle.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Write and proactively maintain documentation, including but not limited to User Manuals, release notes, new feature write-ups, system command documentation, report documentation, and technical bulletins.
    • Assist in planning and designing layouts and content for new product documentation.
    • Develop on-line help screens.
    • Participate in copyediting and quality assurance reviews, including proofreading for grammar, style, context, spelling and content accuracy.

    Requirements

    • Ability to translate complex technical concepts and content into easy-to-read text, tables, charts, and graphics.
    • Sharp proofreading skills and acute attention to detail.
    • Strong command of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
    • Exceptional writing, editing and fact checking.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to work 15-20 hours a week, at least 3 consecutive hours at a time during the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
    • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in  Technical Communications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, English, Journalism, or other major with writing emphasis.
    • Familiarity with desktop publishing tool(s).

    QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED (NOT REQUIRED):

    • Researching and interviewing skills.
    • Knowledge of currently used technical language, concepts, practices, and procedures.
    • Experience with generating plans, designs, and layouts for new product documentation.
    • Familiarity with the Agile development methodology.
