We are searching for a passionate and proactive Special Collections Librarian to join our team, with a focus on developing and managing our African American History Collection.
As one of our Special Collections Librarians, you will have the privilege of serving our valued customers using all of the library’s Special Collections while also taking the lead in shaping our African American History Collection. Collaborating closely with the Special Collections Manager, you will establish collection profiles and selection guidelines, evaluate current strengths and collecting areas, and forge meaningful connections with vendors, organizations, communities, individuals, and colleagues to enhance our collections.
Responsibilities:
Engage and assist library patrons by providing access to the library’s diverse Special Collections, including our African American History Collection.
Collaborate with the Special Collections Manager to establish comprehensive collection profiles and selection guidelines specifically tailored to our African American History Collection, ensuring its growth and relevance.
Assess the strengths and areas of development within the African American History Collection, identifying opportunities to expand and enrich its offerings.
Foster fruitful relationships with vendors, organizations, communities, and individuals who can contribute valuable materials to enhance our African American History Collection.
Actively participate in professional networks and engage with colleagues to stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and opportunities for collaboration in developing special collections.
Curate captivating exhibitions and engaging displays that showcase the beauty and significance of our African American History Collection, captivating the hearts and minds of our visitors.
Collaborate with educators, researchers, and community partners to develop impactful programs and events that utilize our African American History Collection to promote learning and cultural appreciation.
Assist all customers with digitizing and other technologies in our Memory Lab, while exploring ways to make the African American History Collection more accessible and engaging for a wider audience.
