The 5th Annual South Asian Media and Cultural Studies conference will be held on January 31 to February 1, 2019 at the Center for Global and Multicultural Engagement at Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida. This year’s theme, “Cultural Disruptions: Media and Social Change in South Asia,” is focused on the reconfiguration of cultural, social, economic and political relationships in South Asia, in parallel with the epochal shift in the media and communication practices in the region.
The conference will begin with a keynote address on “Peace Communication in South Asia” by Anup Kumar of Cleveland State University at 4:30 PM on January 31, 2019, at FSU’s Center for Global and Multicultural Engagement. The main conference will run from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM on February 1, also at the CGE, and will include lunch and coffee breaks. There will be a number of distance presentations from authors in South Asia. There is no registration cost, but both presenters and attendees are encouraged to register online.
Our focus on South Asian Media and Cultural Studies aims to promote research related to the burgeoning media and cultural sectors in South Asia. South Asian media has remained an under-researched area in academic inquiry, while the rapid growth of media in this region and the connections to groups and audiences around the world, underline its importance.
